The plain t-shirt started life as an item of underwear until it was sported by the likes of Marlon Brando and James Dean, The tshirt then became an essential part of the wardrobe and later became a canvas to show designs and statements. Advertisers soon realized that the good old tshirt was a marketing dream, an early example of this was The movie the wizard of oz where one of the first funny t-shirts was produced.

Printed t’s were more widely worn towards the 1960’s when designers started to experiment with screen-printing and dying processes; this idea of printed tshirts was them taken up by marketing companies for various products. In 1965 Budweiser was one of the first companies to exploit the use of branded tee shirts and since then funny tshirts, branded tshirts and statement tshirts have been used by companies to spread their word.

In the 70’s rock Bands started promoting and wearing their own concert tshirts and realized there was a significant amount of revenue to be made by selling their own concert branded tshirts to fans, sport merchandisers caught on and the licensed t-shirt became big business.
